City Breaks Ground on SRI International’s St. Petersburg Facility

ST. PETERSBURG, FL–(Marketwire - October 30, 2008) - Mayor Rick Baker and SRI International
executives, joined by other government and business leaders, broke ground
today on a new research and development (R&D) facility at the Port of St.
Petersburg. The new facility, called SRI St. Petersburg, will provide a
home for 100 SRI researchers and staff conducting cutting-edge R&D in areas
such as marine science and technology, port security, energy and the
environment.

SRI, a nonprofit research institute, announced in November 2006 that it
would open a marine technology R&D facility in St. Petersburg, located near
the numerous oceanographic and marine science agencies in the Bayboro
Harbor section of the city. In January 2007, SRI officially began
operations by accepting the transfer of approximately 40 staff members from
the University of South Florida’s (USF) Center for Ocean Technology in St.
